About the author:
José Manuel ‘Lico’ Jiménez Berroa was born in Trinidad (Cuba) in 1851. He studied in Hamburg, Leipzig, and Paris, and he returned to his native country, where he worked as a piano teacher in Cienfuegos. Due to the social pressure of the time, he was forced to return to Europe, where he became deputy director of the Hamburg Music School. He died in 1917.
