This group of pieces is based on the five elements of the universe, as according to Ayurveda: space, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements are associated with our five senses, respectively: hearing, touch, sight, taste and smell. Each element is assigned to one or more instruments: space to the marimba, air to the violin, fire to the trombone, earth to the clarinet and bassoon, and water to the flute. In this way, in each of the pieces, each instrument’s correspondence to each element carries the common thread of the piece, while the other instruments are secondary dialogue elements.
In Inquietud, all the elements awaken after a state of rest and decide ‘among many disputes’ to present their ideas in order to build something that support life and gives a place for knowledge.
In the following pieces, each element (instrument) presents its idea, following the order previously mentioned and the instrument-element relationship also mentioned.
In the last piece (Tierra and Agua) and after the exposition of both elements (in the Coda of the piece), all the elements agree to name what is built as Gaia, the planet Earth.
