Enrique González Arroitajauregui
Enrique González Arroitajauregui was born on 9th April 1898 in Durango (Guipúzkoa). When he was two, his family moved to San Sebastián, where he started his musical education very early. He learned solfège with Secundino Esnaola and, later on, harmony and composition with Beltrán Pagola. He was part of San Sebastián municipal band, where he played the oboe, and he became the director of Zarautz’s band at 25, a position he held until 1936. During the Spanish Civil War, he took refuge in France, and later moved to Estrada (Pontevedra) once the war was over. He was the director of the band until 1968, when he retired.
