The songs by García-Picos, as Luís Seoane calls them in an article about the composer in 1972, are based on the poems Campo and Hoy buscarás en vano by Antonio Machado. The musician from Betanzos did not deposit any copies of these works in any repository, nor did he refer to them in the lists of compositions he made; that is why they are not included in his catalogue. The relevance of these musical creations, composed in Buenos Aires in 1995, lies in the unique use of voice within the compositions of García-Picos. The avant-garde aesthetics of his compositions, his singular contribution to the Galician cause, meant that he stayed away from the traditionalist and popular repertoire that he directed in choirs. Instrumental music, and more specifically symphonic music, fully aligned with his goals. The solution García-Picos found to this dichotomy was drastic: voice is barely present in his catalogue. The songs are two wonderful exceptions.
