'Preludios galegos', op. 28, for piano

Isidro Maiztegui was a prominent Argentine composer of the 20th century closely linked to Spain. His ancestry and his connection with the Galicians exiled to Argentina after the Spanish civil war had a decisive influence on his musical style. The 'Preludios galegos ' were composed in Madrid in 1957, and they constitute a clear example, according to the author himself, of the fact that the authentic tradition does not consist of stereotyped expressions or elements that are repeated and given as immovable, quite the opposite; tradition is to pass on from generation to generation all kinds of unique artistic expressions.

All the preludes contain annotations that relate them to important figures of the time, including Isaac Díaz Pardo (Galician painter) and Valentín Paz Andrade (Galician poet and journalist). The dedication to the Centro Gallego of Buenos Aires and the Instituto Argentino de Cultura Gallega could not be missing, given the composer's Galician origin.

Maiztegui's work, which can be described as neoclassical as well as tending towards archaism, is characterised by his skilful use of the melodic line and the fluency of the rhythmic patterns he employs. Besides, the originality that defines the role of the piano in this work make its performance unique.

This volume belongs to the series Agra Vella, within the collection Ars Gallaeciae Musicae that Dos Acordes co-publishes with the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries (AGADIC) of the Xunta de Galicia. It contains a foreword by Ana María Mondolo, Professor at the School of Art and Music Science in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
