Scottish Drum: Intermediate Level

The drum is a basic instrument in the world of percussion. It works as a solo instrument, as an accompaniment, or accompanied by other instruments, as in drum kits. The Scottish drum is perhaps the most widely used in bagpipe bands, and its characteristic phrasing and nuance make it more flexible and musical than methods derived from American or ‘international’ rudiments. This publication fills a gap in the percussion literature and invites us to take the drumsticks and enjoy expanding our musical knowledge. The proposed method is valid for music schools, all the levels of conservatories of music and, of course, bagpipe bands, an essential aspect for every student or professional, as basic or supplementary training. This second volume goes one step further, so an increasing difficulty can be observed both in the part dedicated to the exercises and the pieces, which facilitates a correct learning. Besides, this two-volume ‘collection’ fills a gap in the percussion literature and invites us to take the drumsticks and enjoy expanding our musical knowledge. The author, David González Outumuro, has a Higher Degree in Percussion and is a teacher of percussion at the Conservatory of Music of Ourense. He has extensive teaching and professional experience, with an outstanding dedication to the drum, which has accompanied him since his youth, as a performer and conductor of bagpipe bands.
